A mother’s thoughts on National Adoption Day
Contributed by Cathie Morris, adoptive mother and MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) member
“Mommmmm! Mommy!” Common words heard everyday by everyone in MOPS – right?
As women, we are blessed to become mothers. For some it may be easy. For others, it may be a frustrating process that sometimes does not turn out in the way we had hoped.
But as we all know, God has a plan for our life. Some women are quite content without children. While others have a deep seeded longing to nurture a child or children.
Being a mother is the most valuable, demanding, and exhausting and rewarding job you will ever have on this earth! And children are gifts from God no matter how they may come into our lives.
November is National Adoption Month, a month set aside by the President of the United States since 1976 to observe, celebrate and raise awareness about adoption of children of all ages and those in foster care.
As an adoptive mother of a wonderful little boy, I encourage you to pray for all adoptee and foster children that are looking for loving and giving homes. That God will grant their prayers and every child will be able to say the word, “Mommy!”
EDITOR’S NOTE: November 21, 2009, marks the 10th anniversary of National Adoption Day — a national day of celebration of adoptive families and an opportunity for courts to open their doors and finalize the adoptions of children from foster care. Since 2000, more than 25,000 children have had their adoptions finalized on National Adoption Day.
