Fala Days in Warm Springs

When: Saturday, November 5

Time: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Where: Downtown Warm Springs

“Fala Days” began as a small celebration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s faithful and shaggy black Scottie named Fala who lived to be 12 years old, out-surviving FDR by seven years until this little canine passed away in 1952. Fala was mentioned in many of FDR’s speeches, and some would say he is the most famous presidential pet. His original name was “Big Boy,” but FDR renamed him “Murray the Outlaw of Falahill” after a famous Scottish ancestor, settling on “Fala” as a nickname.

This celebration of FDR’s “best friend” has evolved into an annual gathering in downtown Warm Springs that falls on the first weekend in November. This year, this event is being hosted by the City of Warm Springs and the Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Atlanta.

All-day festivities on Saturday, November 5th include a parade, bagpipers, merchants and vendors, street dances, a “Fala” look-alike contest , and storytelling, among many other activities.

Over 100 Beautiful Scottie Dogs from all over the country coming to Warm Springs, so bring your own Scottie on a leash if you have one!
