If you have an Easter tree, these salt dough easter eggs make great decorations or Easter gifts. Kids love helping to make salt dough and they will have even more fun decorating these salt dough Easter eggs.
Salt dough is super easy to make. Once baked to thoroughly dry, the dough is hard and can last for years.
Supplies you will need:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1/2 cup water
- Rolling pin
- Egg shape cutter
- Straw, for making holes
- Parchment-paper covered baking sheets
- Acrylic paint, multiple colors
- Paint pens, optional
- Clear coat sealer, optional
- Twine, ribbon
Stir together flour, salt, and water until a dough forms. Knead the dough to make it smoother. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness.
Cut into desired shapes and use the straw to make holes for hanging.
Place cut shapes on the parchment-covered baking sheet. Bake at 250F for 2 hours; allow to cool.
Decorate with paints. Allow to dry thoroughly and spray with a clear coat sealer on both sides to preserve.
Loop twine or ribbon through the holes and hang.
